Town staff are closely monitoring Tropical Storm Idalia system in the Gulf of Mexico and coordinating with Sarasota County Emergency Management. There remains some uncertainty as to the track, intensity, and landfall. Please monitor local media and ensure your hurricane plan is in place.
The current forecast indicates a northwest Florida landfall as a Hurricane, and then move northeast across the peninsula. There is a potential for Hurricane conditions in our area late Wednesday and into Thursday. Depending on the track, we may experience periods of heavy rainfall and tropical storm-force winds.
The National Hurricane Center will release another weather advisory Tuesday morning and we will update our messaging based on that forecast. Updates will be published on the Town’s website https://www.longboatkey.org and our Facebook and Twitter accounts if severe weather threatens Longboat Key.
